Joel 2:25 contains one of the most breathtaking promises in the Old Testament: “I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.” God was speaking to a nation that had lost what felt irretrievable — harvests devoured, years wasted, hope depleted.
But He spoke restoration. Not just consolation. Not just “I’ll help you manage the loss.” He promised to give back what had been taken.
Restoration Is His Specialty
Think of the stories Scripture tells. Joseph — sold into slavery by his own brothers, imprisoned unjustly, forgotten. And yet: restored to a position that allowed him to save countless lives, including the very brothers who betrayed him.
Peter — who denied Christ three times in a courtyard lit by firelight. And yet: restored by the same fire on a beach, given three chances to replace denial with love, and commissioned to feed the very sheep he thought he had forfeited his right to shepherd.
Restoration is not just something God does occasionally. It is something He does because of who He is. He is the God who makes all things new. That includes whatever feels most broken in your life today.
